I Ching

I Ching, or the Chinese book of changes, is a Confucian classic. It is a book of divination based on a set of 64 hexagrams which are a collection of broken and unbroken lines, each representing a a particular force of nature. A hexagram, as the name implies, consists of six individual lines or two distinct trigrams. Individual lines are determined either by "casting" 49 thin wooden sticks called yarrow stalks (which is the more traditional method), or by casting three coins where one side represents the Ying and the other represents the Yang. The I ching dates back before Confucious, however, he added some very important notations to the original text.
